From teams to individuals, Rec Sports offers a variety FREE programs that will improve your fitness level while having a good time. To take advantage of, or for more information on any of the following programs, please visit our website.
VCUFL (September 20 – November 12) – Registration open until September 20
The NFL season is the theme – you supply the team! Put together or join a team, and then participate in physical activities or exercising in any of our facilities. The number of minutes your team members spend exercising or participating in physical activities each week are converted into yards, points, and touchdowns. The top two teams from each conference will face off in the VCU Fitness Bowl at the end of the semester! Everyone who completes the program gets a T-shirt and the top four teams win prizes.
Swim the James (August 23 – December 10) – Registration begins August 16
Jump in and take the challenge! Receive prizes for reaching mile posts along the James River by swimming laps in the MCV Campus Aquatic Center Pool or the Cary Street Gym Aquatic Center Pool.
Water Exercise Challenge (August 30 – December 10)
Always wanted to try Water Exercise classes but needed motivation? Here is your chance! Receive prizes while reaching your fitness goals. You can choose any of our Water Exercise classes and receive prizes for the first 15 and 30 classes that you attend. If you attend 15 Water Exercise classes you will receive a beach towel; those who attend 30 water exercise classes will receive a T-shirt.
Bench Press Competition (October 11 & 12, 5pm-7pm) – Registration opens October 10
Men and women of all sizes and ability levels are encouraged to take part in this test of strength and stamina. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall best bench presses in weight class categories or relation to body weight: this will be determined at the competition meeting. All participants who complete the competition will receive a Bench Press T-shirt!
New Years Challenge (January 31 – April 1) – Registration opens November 15
The holidays may be a distant memory but those extra pounds are still in the here and now. Join us for the popular New Year’s Challenge. Participants are measured and photographed (in athletic clothes) “before” and “after” the 10-week challenge. The person with the most overall improvement (reduction in girth, weight and body fat) will receive a prize. Prizes will be awarded in men’s and women’s divisions. All participants who complete the challenge will get a T-shirt.
